## Summary

The procurement process titled "SBRI Challenge - Fuel & Lubricants" was conducted by the Ministry of Defence in England, focusing on research services related to the development of a sensor system for detecting contamination in fuel and lubricants. The procurement, completed on 9th May 2016, started on 1st January 2016, with an allocated budget of £95,513. The tender was part of an initiative to optimise the performance of monitoring sensors in operational environments and was initiated as a tender process.

This contract presents valuable growth opportunities for businesses specialising in engineering, sensor technology, or research services, particularly those with experience in developing electronic monitoring systems. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are encouraged to consider this area as the project is designed to foster innovation in condition monitoring solutions, making it an attractive avenue for companies seeking to expand their capabilities in high-tech solutions for the defence sector.

## Notice

To develop a concept sensor system to address in-service and on-wing solutions for the detection and reporting of contamination, carbonisation and wear. The sensor system will be developed in conjunction with a Digital Signal Processor to provide an autonomous solution. The key deliverables of the project are as follows: 1. Optimise condition and health monitoring thin-film plantinum sensors for oil and fuel. 2. Ruggedise and optimise electronics for signal conditioning of the thin-sensors. 3. Develop algorithms to detect and report condition and indicate contamination level of oil and fuel. 4.Validate the thermal product concept for condition and health monitoring of oil and fuel using controlled samples. 5.Report on sensor optimisation, conditioning electronics and performance of the sensor system in terms of condition and health monitoring. 6. Phase 1 Final Report.
