## Summary

The contract titled "Democracy Support Contractor" has been awarded by the Department for Digital Culture Media and Sport, based in London, UK. It falls under the category of Government services and was procured through an open procedure. The contract is valued at £500,000 and the contract period spans from 10th December 2018 to 31st March 2020. The procurement process is now complete, having reached the award stage, with the winning supplier being the Involve Foundation. The tender was initially set to close on 6th December 2018.

This opportunity in the realm of participatory democracy is ideal for organisations that focus on citizen engagement and innovative governance solutions. Small and medium enterprises specialising in community engagement, civic technology, and local government collaboration should consider participating, as the contracting authority has expressed a preference for economic operators that are SMEs. Engaging in projects that promote local decision-making could also enhance brand visibility and reputation within communities, potentially leading to further business growth and public sector contracts.

## Notice

The Office for Civil Society and Communities Team believe that local people are best placed to understand the needs and strengths of their communities and the places where they live. As such, local people should be involved in finding solutions to local issues. The Innovation in Democracy Programme (IiDP) builds on OCS' expertise in this area (such as with Community Organisers, Place-based Social Action (with the Big Lottery Fund), Enabling Social Action and the work of the Centre for Social Action). IiDP will involve citizens in decision making at local government level through innovative models of participatory democracy. DCMS will be providing funding and support to 8-10 local authorities to pilot opportunities to open up some of their policy decisions to citizen deliberation. Citizens' Assembly processes will be used, complemented by online civic technology tools in order to extend the reach, transparency, and accountability of the process. Additional information: The contracting authority considers that this contract may be suitable for economic operators that are small or medium enterprises (SMEs). However, any selection of tenderers will be based solely on the criteria set out for the procurement.
