Published freight statistics also show that road remains the dominant mode for domestic freight movement. In 2024, the UK moved 206 billion tonne kilometres of domestic freight, of which 82% was moved by road. The availability and suitability of roadside facilities, including lorry parking, therefore plays an important role in supporting reliable freight operations and network resilience on strategic routes.",
