## Summary

The National Museum of the Royal Navy, located in Portsmouth, has awarded a contract for the painting of HMS Caroline's external hull, including the shipside and superstructure. The procurement was conducted through an open procedure, targeting bidders above a specific threshold, resulting in an awarded value of approximately £143,389. TIS (NGA) LIMITED, a small to medium-sized enterprise based in County Durham, has been selected as the supplier. The contract period runs from 27th August 2024 to 30th September 2024. HMS Caroline, currently moored at Alexandra Dock in Belfast, will undergo thorough preparation and painting work to extend her life expectancy and maintain her excellent condition. The initial tender period concluded on 31st July 2024, with critical dates including the publication of the tender on 28th June 2024 and the contract start on 19th August 2024.

This tender represents a valuable opportunity for contractors specialising in painting and maintenance of maritime structures, especially those adept at handling historical vessels. Tenders were encouraged from SMEs, offering significant growth potential for businesses in the restoration and painting industry. Engaging in such a high-profile project with the National Museum of the Royal Navy not only promises immediate financial benefits but also enhances the reputation and portfolio of the winning contractor. Businesses experienced in painting large-scale naval and maritime structures will find this opportunity well-suited to their capabilities.

## Notice

The National Museum of the Royal Navy is seeking to appoint a contractor to paint HMS Caroline, the ship, including her shipside and superstructure. On her decommissioning from the Royal Navy, HMS was placed into the care of the National Museum of the Royal Navy in Portsmouth, though remaining moored in her position in Alexandra Dock in Belfast. In late 2016 she was towed a short distance into Dry Dock to have her hull inspection, cleaned and repainted. She returned to the Alexandra Dock on completion of the works and was placed into the dock stern first. Although no longer capable of making way under her own power, Caroline remains afloat and in excellent condition. To increase Caroline's life expectancy, and to keep her as good condition as possible this ITT has been raised to prepare and paint the entire ship including shipside and superstructure details which can be found in the statement of requirements, drawing and photos is found in the Annexes within the ITT and by request by emailing tenders@nmrn.org.uk The contract length is indicative and will be informed by the proposals by bidders. The NMRN strongly recommend interested bidders to visit the site and ship to understand the requirements of this bid.
