## Summary

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) is planning a procurement process titled "Food Waste Management RFI" focused on the refuse disposal and treatment industry. This procurement process is currently in the planning stage with a market engagement end date on 17 March 2025. The project involves managing food waste and other biological materials, including garden or estate waste and sewage, across various global locations, from British Oversea Territories to the United Kingdom. The goal is to explore market solutions for safe, environmentally compliant waste management, energy recovery, or the production of useful by-products such as fuel, fertiliser, or biochar.

This tender represents a significant business opportunity, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) due to its suitability criteria. Businesses that specialise in waste management technologies, environmental sustainability, and processes that can withstand logistically challenging conditions would be well-positioned to compete. This Request for Information (RFI) seeks to tap into innovative solutions that can handle waste in remote locations while maximising additional benefits, making it an attractive opportunity for companies dedicated to advancing waste management and resource recovery technologies.

## Notice

The Authority has a requirement to manage food waste, and other biological materials including garden or estate waste and sewage, at locations around the world. Some of those locations are at the end of long supply chains and have limited personnel. This RFI is intended to allow the Authority to understand what technologies and processes are currently available on the market for the management and disposal of such wastes in a safe manner, compliant with environmental regulations, whilst also maximising second order benefits including energy recovery or the production of fuel, fertiliser, biochar or other materials or resources that could be exploited by those in remote locations.
