The programme aims to provide teaching internships in STEM-related subjects and languages. School partnerships need to submit applications by November 7, 2022, for a minimum of 5 participants. Funding for the programme amounts to a maximum of £8,300 per year, with a grant of £1,600 per intern completing a 3-week internship.

By accessing the Jaggaer eTendering Portal, businesses can engage with the Department for Education and contribute to developing the next generation of educators.

## Notice

Grants are available for school-led partnerships to design and provide teaching internships targeted at undergraduates studying for a degree in STEM-related subjects and languages. The aim of the internships programme is to enable undergraduates studying for a degree in a related subject the opportunity to experience teaching before they commit to it as a career. This programme is part of the Get into Teaching service, supporting prospective teachers through their journey into the profession. To reduce duplication, schools in close proximity are encouraged to work together to submit an application with one lead school responsible for the administration and grant relationship with the Department for Education (DfE). The programme will typically take place towards the end of each academic year around June and July, and internships should last for three weeks. School partnerships are expected to commence recruitment of interns from January onwards. DfE will provide successful school partnerships with standard application forms prior to recruitment commencing, including the minimum level of information required from each applicant and Get into Teaching branding. Undergraduates studying for a degree in STEM-related subjects and languages can apply to experience teaching in the following subjects: - physics - maths - computing - chemistry - languages As part of the Get into Teaching service, all successful schools advertise their programme via the following link: Teaching internships | Get Into Teaching (education.gov.uk) The programme should offer interns a structure of activities to gain a deep experience of teaching. This may include: - a combination of teaching, running subject-related projects, offering intensive support for children who are struggling, helping with experiments and laboratory work - structured training, shadowing and lesson observation followed by a chance to jointly plan and deliver lessons - access to one-to-one mentors who are good or outstanding classroom teachers in their specialism - opportunities to network with qualified subject specialists Programme design is expected to include measures to support and encourage interns to apply for teacher training. This may include: - continued contact with their mentor post programme - support for the intern to make an application for ITT - guarantee of an interview for any ITT places that they apply to your partnership - keep in touch events for interns after the programme is complete All interns should be encouraged to access additional support from the Get into Teaching service, including teacher training advisers. Please submit any questions through the DfE e-tendering portal (Jaggaer) programme portal system. DfE will be hosting webinars to answer any questions you may have about the programme on: - Tuesday 4 October, 12:30pm - 13:30pm - Friday 14 October, 09:30am - 10:30am - Wednesday 19 October, 16:00pm - 17:00pm Please email Teaching.INTERNSHIPS@education.gov.uk. Additional information: The programme is school led. Only school-led partnerships can apply for funding. School partnerships can choose to collaborate with an accredited Initial Teacher Training (ITT) provider to develop and deliver their programme. The partnership lead school should submit the application as they will have overall responsibility for the budget. However, they can choose to work in collaboration with partners to develop the proposal. Whilst DfE welcome applications from school-led partnerships across England, we especially welcome applications from schools whose reach covers geographic areas where there have previously been gaps in provision, including: - London - South East - South West Applications must be for a minimum of 5 participants across the subjects. There will be an opportunity to revise places requested later in the programme based on local capacity or need. Application process 1. Register for the department's e-tendering system Jaggaer, which can be accessed via the Jaggaer online portal. Please note that responses can only be submitted in electronic form. 2. Complete the application form and submit your application in Jaggaer by no later than 5pm on Monday 07 November 2022. 3. We will assess your application against the criteria set out in the application guidance. 4. Applications that i) do not meet the published eligibility criteria, or ii) have submitted their application outside of the Jaggaer system, will not be assessed. Attachments: The following documents will be available to view in Jaggaer: - Doc A (TBC) - Doc B (TBC) Funding for the minimum cohort size of 5 interns the grant funding would equate to a maximum of PS8,300 per year. The funding is for PS1,600 overall for each intern completing a 3-week internship. Of this PS1,600: - PS900 (PS300 per week) will be provided to the intern on completion of the full 3-week internship - up to PS700 (PS200 per week + PS100) will go directly to the school to cover coordination costs, including recruitment of interns. This cannot include marketing costs Additional funding of PS300 per school (not per intern) is available for support to interns after the programme is complete.
