## Summary

The College of Policing Limited has awarded a contract for the National Police Wellbeing Service to develop a Fatigue and Shift Work Risk Management Strategy targeting Home Office police forces in England and Wales. This procurement, classified under the CPV code 73300000 for research and development services, was awarded via a selective procurement method as a call-off from a framework agreement. The contract, valued at £20,000, commenced on 6th September 2021 and will run until 31st March 2022. The tender period formally ended on 6th August 2021.

This project represents a significant opportunity for businesses specialising in research and consultancy services focused on police workforce wellbeing, particularly those with expertise in fatigue management and sleep health. Companies that provide innovative solutions and strategies in this area, including small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and voluntary, community, and social enterprises (VCSEs), would be well-positioned to engage with or partner in future initiatives stemming from this award, supporting growth in a crucial public service sector.

## Notice

The National Policing Wellbeing Survey 2019, highlighted issues around police officer and police staff fatigue, along with negative impacts of shift working in police forces in England and Wales. The College of Policing (The Authority) on behalf of NPWS have funding available in order to further knowledge and understanding of fatigue and shift working in policing. A pilot study has recently been conducted in relation to the promotion of fatigue management and sleep health. However, continued research is necessary to guide nationwide implementation of fatigue-management and sleep health promotion programs. The College of Policing (The Authority) on behalf of NPWS are now looking for a partner to work with to extend this study within Home Office police forces in England and Wales. The data collected will form the basis of Fatigue Risk Management Guidance in Home Office police forces.
