## Summary

The procurement process is initiated by the Business Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) for the project titled "SBRI Heat Pump Ready - Stream 1: Solutions for High Density Heat Pump Deployment". This initiative falls under the clean energy industry and aims to foster innovative methodologies for deploying heat pumps. Currently in the planning stage, the milestone for engagement concludes on 28th January 2022. Interested parties can participate in online engagement events commencing on 1st November 2021, and further details can be found on the relevant event pages.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses focused on innovative clean energy solutions, particularly those that specialise in heat pump technologies, electrical engineering, and project management consultancy. Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and voluntary community and social enterprises (VCSEs) are particularly encouraged to engage, as the initiative seeks to fund approximately 15 projects in the initial phase, with a pathway for further development. Participating companies will have the chance to contribute to a pivotal government programme aimed at achieving net zero targets by 2050, thus supporting economic growth while addressing environmental challenges.

## Notice

Programme overview Heat Pump Ready forms part of BEIS's PS1 billion Net Zero Innovation Portfolio (NZIP), which aims to accelerate the commercialisation of innovative clean energy technologies and processes through the 2020s and 2030s. As a key solution for decarbonising homes, heat pumps will be critical for meeting the UK's legally binding commitment to achieve net zero by 2050 - and delivering the Prime Minister's 10 Point Plan. Heat Pump Ready will support the development of innovative solutions across the heat pump sector. The Programme is aligned with other BEIS NZIP Programmes, and Ofgem's Network Innovation Fund (NIC) and Strategic Innovation Fund (SIF). Heat Pump Ready will be delivered through 3 streams: Stream 1: This opportunity, detailed below. Stream 2: A grants programme supporting innovation in tools and technologies to overcome barriers to heat pump deployment. Stream 3: A contract to provide support, evaluation, knowledge sharing and dissemination services across the Heat Pump Ready Programme. Stream 1 - This opportunity Through a pre-commercial procurement Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI) BEIS is looking to fund the development of innovative methodologies and solutions for the co-ordinated deployment of heat pumps at a high density within a given location. SBRI is a well-established pre-commercial procurement route to connect public sector challenges with innovative ideas from industry, supporting companies to generate economic growth and enabling improvement in achieving government objectives. BEIS is looking to conduct this SBRI under two phases: Phase 1 - feasibility of solution, and Phase 2 - solution demonstration, with a down select between phases. With the budget allocated, the initial expectation is that up to approximately 15 projects will be funded for Phase 1 with an expectation that at least 3 projects will continue to Phase 2. In Phase 1 projects will have up to 6 months to develop the feasibility of their methodology, with projects which progress to Phase 2 having up to 30 months to trial their developed methodology for high density heat pump deployment within a given location. The solutions and outcomes developed in this Stream will help to form an evidence base which can be used by the heat pump sector and by BEIS to develop cost effective, efficient routes to high density heat pump deployment. Successful bidders in this Stream will be required to take part in Stream 3 activities, focused on sharing the learnings between the SBRI funded projects, with activities including working groups, facilitated lessons learnt sessions and support with standardisation of materials developed across projects. Eligible costs and funding details will be confirmed at the point of ITT publication and will be outlined at the supplier engagement event listed below. Additional information: Date: Week commencing 1st November 2021; 3 online events, of approximately 3 hours each (1 Stream per event), as detailed below.
