## Summary

The University of Portsmouth is undertaking a procurement process for a Depth Sensing Nanoindentation Instrument, aimed at enhancing mechanical and tribological measurements in their School of Mechanical and Design Engineering. The tender, classified under the goods category with a value of £140,000, was published on 15 October 2018, and the submission deadline was set for 14 November 2018. The procurement method is an open procedure, which is above the threshold, and the contract is set to commence on 9 December 2018, lasting until 31 July 2019, with delivery to be made to Portsmouth, England.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in scientific instrumentation, particularly those focused on testing and measuring equipment. Companies equipped to deliver complex installations and associated data analysis software would be well-suited to compete, making this an ideal opportunity for small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) looking to expand their reach in the academic and research sectors. The project not only supports teaching and research at the university but also encourages innovation in material testing technologies.

## Notice

Depth Sensing Nanoindentation University of Portsmouth The School of Mechanical and Design Engineering requires a new depth sensing nanoindentation instrument for mechanical and tribological measurements. The school is looking for a supply, installation and commissioning of instrumented nanoindentation unit along with accessories, data acquisition and analysis software as per specifications given below. The instrument will be used for teaching and research to measure and test various materials including, but not limited to polymers, metals, thin films, biomaterials, woods and composites in both ambient and liquid environments. Nanoindentation instrument for the measurement of hardness, elastic modulus and other material properties of bulk materials, from metals to soft polymers to biomaterials, as well as thin films (< 100 nm). Instrument should be capable to perform dynamic and quasi-static nanoindentation, imaging, and nanoscale scratching and wear testing with industry leading sensitivity, reliability and performance.
