## Summary

The Met Office has issued a tender for the provision of marine connectors and cables. This procurement is aimed at securing a manufacturing solution for connectors and cables used in their Automatic Marine Observation Network. These systems, which include data buoys in the North Atlantic Ocean, light vessels in the English Channel, and worldwide voluntary observation ships, require robust solutions to ensure durability in harsh offshore environments. The tender, classified under the marine equipment industry category, will deliver the products to the National Oceanographic Centre in Southampton. This open procedure tender commenced on 3rd October 2024 and will close on 31st October 2024, with the contract period spanning from 21st November 2024 to 20th November 2027. The contract is valued at £150,000 and includes an option to extend for a further year.

This tender provides a significant opportunity for businesses specialising in the manufacture of durable and high-quality marine connectors and cables. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are particularly encouraged to apply, given the Met Office's suitability criteria which favour such entities. The zero-commitment, as-needed basis of this contract offers flexibility, making it appealing for manufacturers looking to establish or expand their presence in the marine equipment sector. Businesses adept in producing equipment that can withstand extreme marine environments and meet stringent durability standards would be well-positioned to benefit from this procurement opportunity.
