Providers of community ophthalmology services will be required to contribute to a Consultant Led Ophthalmology Network, (CLODN) with a responsibility to develop and implement citywide approaches to :- * Reducing unwarranted clinical variation * Development of appropriate, safe and effective clinical pathways and protocols (including care being delivered in appropriate settings using appropriate skill mixing * Sharing best practice * Fostering innovation * Assuring quality * Fostering system integration * Supervising system wide audit, training and development, and peer review/peer support. The service will: Offer patients a choice of locations and appointment times, ensuring equitable timely and appropriate access; Ensure that patients are seen and treated in a safe environment, most appropriate to their care needs; Provide best value for money, delivering effective and sustainable use of resources.
