## Summary

The Ministry of Defence has initiated a procurement process for the disposal and resale routes of Soft Body Armour. This process falls within the industry category of Weapons and ammunition disposal services. The engagement end date for this tender is set for January 26, 2024. The Ministry of Defence, located in Bristol, England, is inviting businesses to share their recycling, regenerating, or repurposing methods for soft armour, with a focus on sustainability and cost efficiency.

This tender by the Ministry of Defence offers opportunities for businesses that are involved in recycling, regenerating, or repurposing materials, particularly those in the field of weapons and ammunition disposal services. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with experience in sustainable processes and those with expertise in materials recycling would be well-suited to compete. Businesses interested in this tender should focus on demonstrating their capacity to handle and process soft armour, as well as their commitment to sustainability throughout the recycling process.

## Notice

The MOD would like to better understand the current landscape for recycling, regenerating, or repurposing of Soft Armour. 1. How does your business recycle, regenerate, or repurpose soft armour? Including all components/raw materials and what are the final products you produce? 2. If your business does not make final products, please indicate, and provide details on the various companies you sell to and what they use it for? 3. The specific grade/composition of material produced, post recycling/regeneration/re-purposing, and how this is determined (i.e., testing methodology)? 4. The applicability of the recycling/regeneration/re-purposing process to other "high tenacity fibres", e.g., Aramids, Ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE), Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer (GFRP), Carbon-fiber-reinforced polymers (CFRP) etc? 5. Who do you currently do this for? 6. What is your businesses capacity both to hold and process soft armour? 7. What security measure do you undertake for holding this type of equipment and what process do you use to certify demilitarisation? 8. How does your business provide and sustain sustainability throughout? 9. At what value do you currently buy soft armour for? 10. Any other information you can provide on the cost of the process in terms of money and sustainability of the process? Please note this RFI is purely for research purposes only and not the initiation of the formal contracting process.
