## Summary

The Nottingham City Council has recently completed the procurement process for a project titled "Nottingham Caves Guide (CPU 3167a)" within the tourism industry sector, specifically focusing on tourist guide services. The procurement was initiated under an open tender procedure with a total contract value of £9,900. The contract period commenced on 6th November 2018 and will run until 3rd May 2019. The project aims to produce a technical guide for cave owners in Nottingham, providing a structured approach to the conservation and development of the city’s cave resources. Interested parties addressed their submissions to be managed within the East Midlands region of the United Kingdom, and the tender was officially awarded on 5th November 2018.

This contract presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in heritage conservation, tour guiding, structural engineering, and urban planning. Organisations with experience in the specific issues surrounding the development and conservation of heritage sites, particularly in cave environments, would be well-placed to compete for similar tenders in the future. This project not only aims to preserve Nottingham’s unique natural resources but also to foster local heritage-led tourism, offering the potential for growth and collaboration among service providers in the tourism and cultural sectors.

## Notice

The Nottingham Caves Survey has helped to record the most significant caves within the city; has developed a methodology for decision-making with regards to caves within the planning process and has considered the resource in terms of heritage-led tourism. This commission builds on the project to promote the use, conservation, and sensitive development around the cave resource in Nottingham. The audience for the products is primarily cave owners and managers but it is also hoped that it would engage with the public. This commission is to produce a technical guide for cave owners clarifying the appropriate development, conservation, and creative uses of caves. This would provide a framework for developers and their professional advisors - giving a structured approach to site investigation, heritage assessment, options appraisal, and risk management to support sustainable development. The technical guide spans archaeology, structural engineering, geology, planning, and architecture. The successful applicant should provide demonstrable experience of resolving development, conservation and use issues within Nottingham's Caves or directly comparable
