## Summary

The Home Office, based in London, has recently completed a procurement process for the development of knife detection technology aimed at enhancing the capabilities of police forces. The tender, titled "Knife Detection Technology," falls under the industry category "Development of security equipment" (CPV 73421000). The procurement method used was an open procedure (above threshold) and the contract has been awarded to Xenint Ltd, with a total value of £328,179. The contract period started on 11 November 2024 and will end on 31 May 2025. This project is designed to create systems that can detect concealed knives at a distance, either in a defined area or as portable equipment carried by officers. The technology will be deployed across multiple regions including British Overseas Territories, the Channel Islands, Europe, Isle of Man, the Rest of the World, and the United Kingdom.

This tender represents a significant opportunity for businesses specialising in security technology, particularly those capable of developing innovative detection solutions. The focus on systems that can be portable or fixed during operation opens doors for both small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with the expertise to create advanced, adaptable security solutions. Furthermore, the substantial contract value presents lucrative prospects for growth within the security technology market. Companies proficient in the development of non-intrusive, high-precision detection equipment would be well-suited to engage with similar future tenders and expand their presence in the public safety sector.
