## Summary

The University of Sheffield is seeking to procure a 30-35kW PEM fuel cell system as part of its project to establish a national Translational Energy Research Centre (TERC) focused on low carbon energy solutions. The procurement process, classified under the CPV codes for electricity, heating, and solar energy, is currently in the award stage, with an active award notice dated 1st October 2019, totalling £170,000. The procurement method employed is an open procedure, with the tender period having ended on 3rd June 2019. The project will take place at the University, located at Western Bank, Sheffield, within the Yorkshire and the Humber region.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses involved in renewable energy technologies, particularly those focused on hydrogen generation and fuel cell systems. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that offer innovative energy solutions, including bioenergy, carbon capture, and integration of renewable energy systems, will find this tender well-suited to their capabilities. Given the University’s commitment to low carbon technologies, winning this contract could enhance a business's visibility and credibility within the growing green economy sector.

## Notice

With co-funding from the European Regional Development Fund, the University of Sheffield is establishing a flagship national Translational Energy Research Centre (TERC) and is looking to procure and integrate into a mini-grid system a range of bioenergy and renewable energy generating equipment Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS), fuel cells and electrolysers. Hydrogen is a fundamental element in the transition to low carbon (or hydrogen) economy and hydrogen generation will form a key part of the integrated infrastructure in the Centre. The hydrogen generated will be utilised as fuel for a polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) fuel cell alongside other applications. Therefore, as part of the equipment portfolio, we are looking to procure a 30-35kW PEM fuel cell system. The PEM fuel cell system will support our extensive current and future research activities in low carbon energy generation, integrated energy systems and hydrogen economy.
