## Summary

The NHS England is seeking tenders for the "National Staff Support Helpline for all NHS and social care staff," aimed at providing crucial counselling services. This procurement process is currently in the tender stage, with the deadline for submissions set for 29 March 2022. The contract is valued at £700,000 and is expected to commence on 9 May 2022, concluding on 31 March 2023. The project will be executed primarily in England, with delivery addresses in Leeds (postcode LS2 7UE). This initiative falls under the healthcare industry category, specifically focusing on counselling and guidance services, and will employ an open procurement method as per the regulations for above-threshold procedures.

This tender represents a significant opportunity for businesses in the counselling and mental health support sector, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and voluntary, community, and social enterprises (VCSEs). Providers equipped to offer psychological support or helpline services will find this tender particularly relevant, as it aims to extend assistance for NHS and social care staff in need of mental health resources. Engaging in this contract could not only enhance service delivery to a critical area of public health but also expand a business's presence in the healthcare sector.

## Notice

The NHS staff helpline was initially setup as part of the COVID-19 people health and wellbeing Programme, which was designed to provide an end-to-end pathway approach, with the helpline being part of the 'preventative care' offer. To date, there have been more than one million contacts across the full national support offer. The helplines have been contacted over 19,000 times since launch in April 2020. The NHS staff helpline was also a key recommendation of the NHS Staff and Learners' Mental Wellbeing Commission report in 2019: Evaluation findings on the helpline have indicated that staff continue to contact the helpline with concerns, and that there is a need for psychological support independent of the NHS. This indicates a clear need for the continuation of a national helpline to provide important support to staff with immediate help and 'active listening', through to signposting to other wellbeing and mental health support offers.
