## Summary

Cambridgeshire County Council has completed the procurement process for the CORE Project, involving the supply of 5G Open RAN Network and AR Experience Servers. The project is funded by the Department for Science Innovation and Technology and involves multiple commercial and academic partners. This tender for computer equipment and software, valued at £470,000, falls under the "Software package and information systems" industry category. The competition utilised the Crown Commercial Services RM6098 Technology Products & Associated Services 2 framework, specifically Lot 1 for hardware and software. The tender period concluded on 5th April 2024, and the contract is set to run from 11th May 2024 to 10th May 2025 in England, United Kingdom.

This procurement presents a significant opportunity for businesses specialising in software packages, computer equipment, and related supplies to engage with a large-scale public sector project. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are notably suited to compete, given the project’s alignment with sectors such as telecommunications and mixed reality applications. The CORE project’s objective to demonstrate cutting-edge 5G Open RAN technology provides an avenue for innovative firms to showcase and expand their technical capabilities and expertise in a high-demand, high-visibility environment.

## Notice

The 5G Open RAN servers will form part of the Cambridgeshire Open RAN Ecosystem (CORE) project that is funded by the Department for Science Innovation and Technology (DSIT) and being delivered by a number of commercial and academic partners in collaboration with Cambridgeshire County Council as the Project Lead. The primary purpose of the CORE project is to deploy and demonstrate the capabilities of Open RAN technology within a standalone 5G network in High Demand Density locations. The Authority, as part of the CORE project, require servers and associated equipment/software that will host the 5G Open RAN network and Mixed Reality application being developed by the CORE project. The servers will host several components on the 5G network including the CapGemini core network, RIC (both real-time and near real-time), CU/DU, AWTG SMO/SCAP and a Mixed Reality (MR) application. The servers will also need to interconnect with Bentel Radio Units and AWTG's Flex5G system. The servers will need to be capable of hosting a variety of different software that will be supplied by AWTG, CapGemini and the Mixed Reality software creator. It is therefore essential that the servers are compatible. This is a further competition using the Crown Commercial Services RM6098 Technology Products & Associated Services 2 framework Lot 1 - Hardware and Software and Associated Services.
