## Summary

The Department for Education is currently preparing for the procurement of an Energy Management Systems pilot through a prior information notice. This initiative aims to gather insights into energy management interventions for schools, addressing significant energy costs and carbon footprints in the education sector. The pilot is classified under the CPV code for electricity and software solutions, with an engagement deadline for expressing interest set for 10 August 2022. The upcoming call for competition is expected to be published within the 2022/23 or 2023/24 fiscal years, subject to internal funding approvals.

This procurement offers an exciting opportunity for SMEs and voluntary and community sector enterprises interested in providing energy management solutions tailored for schools. Businesses with expertise in developing user-friendly software, real-time data analytics, and energy efficiency strategies will be particularly well-suited to participate. The project requires providers to offer a comprehensive online energy dashboard along with ongoing support to promote sustainable practices in educational institutions. Those demonstrating relevant experience and capability will have the chance to contribute to a significant reduction in energy consumption within the UK education system.
