## Summary

The University of Leeds, representing the National Centre for Atmospheric Science, has initiated a tender process for the project titled "202324 4118 - Radiometer Blister Development Specification for the FAAM Airborne Laboratory." This project falls under the engineering design services category and is based in the East of England. The procurement is currently in the tender stage, with the key deadline for submissions set on 22nd August 2024 at 10:00 AM. The contract period will commence on 7th October 2024 and conclude by 4th April 2025. The procurement method being employed for this process is a selective approach via a negotiated procedure, ensuring that only qualified vendors participate.

This tender presents a significant opportunity for businesses specialising in engineering design services, particularly those with Part 21 J Design Organisation Approvals/BCARS A8-21 authorisations. SMEs are especially encouraged to apply, promising a lucrative contract valued at £100,000. The project is pivotal in upgrading the FAAM Airborne Laboratory's infrastructure, potentially paving the way for future collaborations and establishing a strong portfolio in advanced atmospheric research capabilities. Businesses adept at structural reinforcement and remote sensing equipment modification will find this project an excellent match for their growth and expansion.

## Notice

The FAAM Airborne Laboratory is undergoing a Mid-Life Upgrade (MLU) project to safeguard the UK's airborne atmospheric research capability, provide frontier science capability and reduce our environmental impact. The facility is part of the National Centre for Atmospheric Science at the University of Leeds and funded by UKRI-Natural Environment Research Candidate (NERC). The Large Radiometer Blister (LRB) is an equipment bay outside the aircraft's pressure hull that provides the ability to mount both upwards and downwards viewing remote sensing equipment. It has been installed on the aircraft since the original conversion in 2004 and serves as a key part of the facility's infrastructure. As part of the MLU, FAAM is intending on developing the infrastructure of the blister to be able to accommodate both known and potential future instrument capabilities, including provisioning of improved services and structural reinforcement to enable operation of new capabilities. FAAM/University of Leeds is seeking organisations with the required Part 21 J Design Organisation Approvals/ BCARS A8-21 to be able to undertake the modifications and associated approvals.
