## Summary

The University of Exeter initiated a procurement process for a DNA Sequencer on 25th June 2019. The contract, classified under the CPV category of Measuring Instruments, is located in the South West of England. It is currently at the Award stage, having ended the tender period on 15th April 2019, with the contract period commencing on 21st June 2019 and concluding on 20th June 2020. The procurement was conducted via a selective method, specifically a call-off from a framework agreement, with a total contract value of £718,810.01.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses engaged in supplying advanced scientific equipment, particularly those specialising in high-throughput DNA sequencing technologies. Companies with expertise in delivering scientific instruments, particularly those that can provide high accuracy and cost-effective solutions, would be well-positioned to compete in this market. Suppliers that can demonstrate capabilities relevant to the multifaceted research applications specified, such as genomics and bioinformatics, may find this an advantageous tender to pursue.

## Notice

DNA sequencing instrument to deliver a flexible and cost-effective service to researchers in the University, NHS and other external collaborators and customers. This instrument is required to fulfil the role currently served by our Illumina HiSeq 2500 and is complementary to our other sequencing instruments including an Illumina MiSeq, a Pacific Biosciences Sequel, Oxford Nanopore MinIONs. While those complementary instruments provide longer reads useful for de novo assembly, the main functionalities required of the new instrument are high throughput, high accuracy and low cost per megabase of sequence data, and ability to sequence small quantities of DNA sample (nanomoles or less). The main research applications will be re-sequencing of human and other genomes for variant detection, genotyping-by-sequencing, meta barcoding with ITS or 16S rDNA amplicons, RNA-seq, ChIP-seq and population genetics approaches similar to RAD-seq. The biological organisms that we study ranges from viruses, through microbes, to higher plants and animals.
