## Summary

The Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs has completed the procurement process titled "Evaluating digital engagement and nudge effectiveness among less digitally". This contract, classified under the industry category of social research services (CPV code 79315000), involves evaluating ways to help farmers and land managers make better decisions through digital engagement. The project addresses participants with limited digital literacy, including neurodivergent individuals, to simplify their decision-making process. The contract, valued at £64,975.75 GBP, was awarded to Verian Group UK Ltd on 7 March 2025. The work is intended to begin on 10 January 2025 and conclude on 10 April 2025. The procurement method used was a call-off from a framework agreement, and the process was selective.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in social research services, particularly those experienced in digital engagement strategies aimed at improving agricultural management. SMEs and voluntary, community, and social enterprises (VCSEs) are recognised as suitable competitors for such tenders. The project’s focus on reducing cognitive load for users with limited digital skills indicates that firms with expertise in user experience design and neurodiversity support will find this contract well-suited to their capabilities. Engaging in this contract can help businesses expand their portfolios and build long-term relationships with government clients, contributing to their business growth in the public sector.

## Notice

We want to help farmers and other land managers make better decisions about how to use their land. We want to understand the extent to which providing application defaults based on farm and/or land types will encourage participants with limited digital literacy, which may also include those who are neurodivergent, to choose to deliver the right things in the right places, by reducing the cognitive load associated with sifting out irrelevant options and reading complex guidance. Our intention is to test this in the context of setting up ELM SFI funding agreement.
