## Summary

The Arts Council England has initiated a tender titled "Review of Museum Development," aimed at enhancing the Museum Development Programme for non-National museums across England. This procurement process falls under the category of Research and Development Services and related consultancy services (CPV Code: 73000000). The contract, valued at £12,100, spans from 28th October 2019 until 30th March 2020. The tender period concluded on 26th September 2019, and the contract has since been awarded to Briest Dillion Limited. The procurement method used was an open procedure, suitable for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and voluntary community sector enterprises (VCSEs).

This tender presents substantial opportunities for businesses specialising in research and consultancy services, particularly those with expertise in museum operations and data analysis. Companies capable of conducting comprehensive surveys and providing insights into the health of the museum sector would find this opportunity advantageous. Businesses that align with the specifications of the Arts Council England and possess experience in working with publicly funded cultural programs may greatly benefit from engaging in this sector, potentially fostering long-term partnerships with the council and other organisations involved in museum development.

## Notice

Arts Council England invests in the Museum Development Programme to support the resilience and ambition of England's non-National museums within the Accreditation Scheme. The programme is delivered across England through a nationally-funded programme of nine grants across the nine regions. We are seeking a supplier, or suppliers, to review the current Museum Development Survey, by which the Museum Development programme collects data annually from museums in each region, with the objective of ensuring it is fit-for-purpose and can deliver insight on the health of the museum sector effectively at both national and regional levels, as well as for individual institutions and people working in support of the museum sector . The intention is to launch the reviewed survey in Summer 2020. This work contributes to recommendation 15 within the Mendoza Review of museums, November 2017 which requests that Arts Council: Collect and disseminate key data on the sector and its health, including audience, workforce, income, indicators of resilience, and expenditure data, to inform policy making and funding, and to provide benchmarking information to museums.
