## Notice

Overview of Contract National Census Data for the Isle of Wight 2011 indicates that there are approximately 700 - 0-18-year olds providing unpaid care. Many receive no support from statutory or voluntary services. Our goal is to extend the reach build resilience and improving life chances for Young Carers. The definition of a Young Carer is taken from Section 96 of the Children and Families Act (2014); "...a person under 18 who provides or intends to provide care for another person (of any age, except where that care is provided for payment, pursuant to a contract or as voluntary work). This relates to care for any family member who is physically or mentally ill, frail elderly, disabled or misuses alcohol or substances". Children in need may be assessed under Section 17 of the Children Act (1989), in relation to their special educational needs, disabilities as a carer, or because they have committed a crime. Where an assessment takes place, it will be carried out by a social worker. When assessing children in need and providing services, specialist assessments may be required and, where possible, should be coordinated so that the child and family experience a coherent process and a single plan of action. The purpose of the contract is to; * protect Young Carers from inappropriate caring, enabling them to have their voices heard, reach their full potential and have the same opportunities as their peers. Considering a whole family view of how Young Carers can be prevented from taking on caring responsibilities and supported to achieve the same level of wellbeing, education and personal development as their peers; * improve the quality of life of all Young Carers regardless of their age, gender, ethnicity and background, for example by enabling them to attend school and engage in social activities.
