## Summary

Newcastle University is currently seeking suppliers for the design, supply, installation, and commissioning of a LoRaWAN network, with a total contract value of £80,000. This procurement falls under the goods category and is designated as a tender, with the tender period ending on 16th March 2020. The project aims to enhance urban sensing capabilities in Newcastle upon Tyne, supported by the Urban Observatory research initiative. The contract is anticipated to commence on 24th March 2020 and will run until 30th November 2020.

This opportunity presents potential for growth, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) specialising in network infrastructure, including suppliers of modems, network routers, and gateway software packages. Companies capable of delivering comprehensive after-sales support and maintenance services tailored for urban technology applications would find this tender particularly well-suited for their expertise. With the focus on enhancing urban data collection capabilities, businesses engaged in innovative sensor technologies may also thrive in this competitive environment.

## Notice

The Urban Observatory is a research project at Newcastle University funded from a variety of sources. It seeks to understand how a city system functions and how different parameters interact (e.g. heat island effect and green spaces, flooding and traffic congestion). The majority of our sensor data is made available under an open licence. More information is available at www.urbanobservatory.ac.uk. Data provided by the observatory is used by researchers, local authorities, and members of the public. In collaboration with city stakeholders including Newcastle City Council, we intend to deploy a LoRaWAN network covering part of Newcastle upon Tyne, to increase our ability to use low powered sensors. The scope of this contract is for the supply and delivery of equipment and services as detailed in the Invitation to Tender document to the University, with after-sales support and 36 months warranty and maintenance
