## Summary

The Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is currently managing a tender for the replacement and upgrade of HV Generators at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital. The project aims to replace the existing 11kV standby generators with three new 11kV, 3000kVA generator sets, ensuring compliance with N+1 standards for essential loads. The procurement process is at the tender stage, with submissions due by 5th May 2021. The contract period is scheduled to commence on 11th October 2021 and extend to 23rd April 2022. This process follows a selective procurement method under a restricted procedure, classified under the CPV code for generators (31120000), and is open to businesses located in the United Kingdom and other territories.

This tender presents an excellent opportunity for electrical engineering firms, particularly those specialising in generator installations and upgrades. Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are encouraged to participate, given the opportunity for innovation in noise reduction and system synchronisation solutions. Companies with expertise in standby power systems, N+1 compliance standards, and installations involving substantial electrical infrastructure would be particularly well-suited to compete for this contract, enabling them to expand their portfolio and secure long-term partnerships within the healthcare sector.

## Notice

The purpose of this project is to replace the existing 11KV standby generators with three 11kV, 3000kVA generator sets (size dependent on their ability to start the systems 20 transformers). These units will be operated as standby generation in the event of supply interruption and will synchronize with the mains for a no-break return. The system is designed for N+1 compliance as defined in HTM-06-01 as two of the proposed generators will fully serve the existing hospital main and essential loads. Note only two generators will be synchronized with the ring-main at any one time due to ring-main capacity and NPG requirements. The new generator is to be factory inspected and tested with witnessing by the engineer and Clients representative prior to shipping to site. All openings will be fitted with silenced housings to reduce combined noise levels to 70dBa at 1 meter external to the building. The Contractor should note that it is hoped the engine cooling fan can be mounted remotely on the building roof to cut down on any incursion into the estates streets. The remote engine cooling can be driven mechanically, hydraulically or by multi electric VSD controlled fans with an N+1 redundancy. Additional information: Is a Recurrent Procurement Type? : No
