This requirement arises because the Council is statutorily obliged to arrange funerals for individuals who have passed away without suitable arrangements made by relatives or friends. The contract is valued at £125,000 and will commence on 1st August 2019, lasting for an initial term of three years, with the option to extend for two additional years. This occurs where there are no relatives or friends who are able or willing to make such arrangements. Derby City Council intends to invite suitable organisations to tender for the contract to make funeral arrangements for anyone who has died in the Derby City Council area where no suitable arrangements have been made for the funeral of the deceased. The tender specifically excludes funeral arrangements for persons who have died in hospital as these arrangements are administered by the NHS. This initial contract is for 3 years with the option to extend for a further 2 years in annual increments. The contract value is based on the full 5 years.
