## Summary

The procurement process entails an open tender initiated by the Defra Network eTendering Portal for Cefas, titled "RFQ: For the provision to supply vessel charter services for a subtidal grab survey in the Severn Estuary." This contract falls under the services category specifically related to fishing and survey vessels. The tender is currently active and is set to close on 27 February 2020. It aims to carry out a benthic survey in Bridgwater Bay, Severn Estuary, with the contract scheduled to commence on 1 June 2020 and conclude by 30 June 2020.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses within the marine and environmental services sectors, particularly those with capabilities in vessel chartering and marine surveys. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in areas such as marine logistics, environmental consulting, and survey operations would be well-positioned to compete, especially given the project’s focus on scientific studies related to potential nuclear power developments in the vicinity.

## Notice

The BEEMS (British Energy Estuarine and Marine Studies) programme is funded by Cefas' customer EDF Energy to provide authoritative scientific information on the marine and transitional waters in the vicinity of potential new build nuclear power stations. Cefas has a requirement to conduct a survey to investigate the subtidal benthic communities in Bridgewater Bay. It includes six sampling stations: three located off Hinkley Point, and three located in the east side of the Bay (see map below). Three replicate grab samples will be taken at each site. This monitoring would serve to inform the WFD benthic invertebrate biological element for TraC waterbodies and it will also provide baseline data for the monitoring at Hinkley Point. A suitable vessel to conduct a benthic grab survey in the vicinity of Hinkley Point nuclear power station, Bridgwater Bay, Severn Estuary.
