## Summary

The tender titled "Bioenergy heat pathways to 2050 - review of evidence and assumptions" was initiated by the Business Energy and Industrial Strategy, focusing on research and experimental development services within the bioenergy sector. The procurement process has reached the award stage, with the contract currently active and set to run from 4th April 2017 to 14th July 2017. The tender closed on 6th March 2017, and the allocated budget for this project is £136,235. This initiative seeks to analyse the costs and benefits of different bioenergy production methods, which will directly contribute to understanding heat decarbonisation options across the UK and beyond. The project will take place in London, England.

This contract presents significant opportunities for businesses engaged in research and development, particularly those specialising in bioenergy, environmental science, or energy systems modelling. Firms capable of providing robust analytical frameworks or experience in supply chain modelling would be well-suited to engage in similar projects, ensuring that they are positioned at the forefront of advancements in sustainable energy solutions. Additionally, businesses looking to expand their portfolios in the public sector should consider this as a template for collaboration with government bodies focused on renewable energy and environmental sustainability.

## Notice

The project aims to critically assess the evidence base on bioenergy, by way of identifying the costs and benefits of alternate ways of generating bioenergy for heat, focusing on the key biogas pathways of biomethane and bio-hydrogen. The resulting report will increase our understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of the evidence and provide a platform to identify a robust set of assumptions highlighting key uncertainties and gaps. The contractor will create a bioenergy supply chain model which will provide credible estimates of costs, greenhouse gas emissions and energy generated from a range of bioenergy routes to 2050, which will feed directly into the broader modelling tool being built to assess heat decarbonisation options more widely, and ultimately leading to a better understanding of the costs and benefits of bioenergy pathways compared to other options. A summary of evidence sources and key findings will be published to increase the transparency of the evidence to external stakeholders and increase opportunities for engagement
