## Summary

The AWS UKGDP Compute Call-Off Contract has been awarded by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), a key public body located in Manchester, England. The procurement process is complete, having reached the award stage on 12th July 2019. This contract, valued at £3,095,040, is classified under the industry category of 'Information systems and servers' and involves delivering computer-related services as part of a strategic initiative to host official application workloads in a public Hyperscale Cloud environment. The contract period commenced on 1st August 2019 and will extend until 31st July 2021.

This tender presents significant opportunities for growth, particularly for large-scale suppliers with expertise in cloud computing and IT services. Companies specialising in the provision of data services, computer support, and consultancy services would be well-positioned to benefit from the DWP's ongoing transition to modernised IT solutions. Engaging in similar public procurement processes could enable such businesses to expand their portfolio and enhance their capabilities in a rapidly evolving technological landscape.

## Notice

DWP continues to transition both its internal and citizen facing OFFICIAL application workloads to strategic public Hyperscale Cloud hosting arrangements. These strategic arrangements deliver great benefits in the running of DWP applications, as the workloads increase by: * Providing high availability - as part of DWP's World Class Service * Providing flexibility - in commissioning at pace, computing and storage capacity for supporting on-going development and maintenance of applications (standing up and down such capacity to reflect the business demand profiles) * Providing price flexibility - using on-demand pricing, where we pay for compute and storage capacity (increase or decrease) in line with business usage or by using reserved pricing where capacity usage is predictable for specific applications.
