The survey will contribute to the UK meeting its legal requirements under the EU Multi-Annual Programme (EU-MAP - Commission Implementing Decision (EU) 2016/1251) to estimate recreational fishery catches of certain species; these statutory requirements are likely to continue until 2020. The EU-MAP requirements vary between regions, but for the UK include: European sea bass, Atlantic cod, Atlantic salmon, sea trout, European eel, pollack, elasmobranchs (sharks, rays, and skates), and ICCAT species (e.g. tunas).
