## Summary

The United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) is conducting a tender titled "STEP Plasma Modelling," focusing on the design and execution of research and development within the fusion power industry. Located at Culham Science Centre in Abingdon, this procurement process is currently in the award stage. The tender was published on 6th June 2019, following a procurement method described as an open procedure. The contract period will run from 11th June 2019 to 31st March 2020, with a total contract value of £1,500,000, and a minimum value set at £300,000.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses in the research and development sector, especially those specialising in plasma physics and computational modelling. Smaller enterprises (SMEs) are encouraged to apply, as the procurement process is designed to be accessible for diverse suppliers. Companies with expertise in gyrokinetic simulations, plasma control systems, and related technologies would be particularly well-suited to compete for this contract, thereby potentially enhancing their growth within the burgeoning field of fusion energy research.

## Notice

The UKAEA aims to establish a national programme that will explore the options, challenges and solutions for accelerating the delivery of fusion power through the development of a compact reactor, the Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production (STEP). The programme will cover every aspect of designing a fusion reactor, including plasma performance and plasma control for steady-state operation. UKAEA invites expressions of interest from research organisations capable of carrying out plasma modelling for STEP. Specifically, modelling is required in the following areas: * First principles-based (gyrokinetic) simulations of turbulence and the associated plasma turbulence in the plasma core and pedestal. * Simulations of turbulence in the scrape-off layer (SOL). * Simulations of non-inductive plasma start-up and non-inductive current drive using waves in the electron cyclotron range of frequencies. The framework will have an initial duration of 1 year, extendable on an annual basis for a maximum of 5 years in aggregate
