## Summary

The procurement process initiated by Merseytravel involves the removal of Class 507/508 trains from the Liverpool City Region for disposal. This tender, titled "Removal of Class 507/508 Trains from the Liverpool City Region for Disposal," is classified under the industry category of repair and maintenance services and falls under an open procedure procurement method. The tender period is set to conclude on 24th August 2020, with the contract expected to commence on 1st September 2020 and continue until 31st December 2023. The total value of this contract is estimated at £300,000.

This tender presents substantial opportunities for businesses involved in transport logistics, equipment disposal, and railway services. Companies that specialise in the removal and dismantling of trains, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and voluntary community sector enterprises (VCSEs), are well-suited to compete for this contract. The requirement for timely removal of the existing fleet to accommodate new units creates a favourable environment for businesses looking to expand their service offerings in the rail maintenance and disposal sector.

## Notice

Merseytravel have a delivery schedule from Stadler for the new fleet of class 777 Electric Multiple Units (EMU's) and will be introducing these in due course. As a result there will be new and existing trains on the network at the same time. The Merseyrail network is a 3rd rail network and there is a limit on how many trains can be stabled and operated without affecting the day to day service of the operation. On time removal of the existing fleet is essential as new units will be arriving on a frequent basis. For information the network capacity has been capped at 68 units (existing and new). There will be 57 or 58 3-car units to be moved consisting of a combination of class 507 and 508 EMU's. Initially there will be 22 moves from December 2020 to September 2021 with 2 units being removed at a time. It is envisaged that the remaining 14 units will be removed in pairs during 2023.
