## Summary

The University of Northumbria at Newcastle is currently conducting a tender process to procure 3D printers, specifically FDM 3D printers, to replace their existing MakerBot models. This procurement falls within the category of goods, with a total estimated contract value of £100,000, of which a minimum of £50,000 is anticipated. The tender period closes on 16 April 2021, and the contract is expected to commence on 3 May 2021, lasting until 2 March 2026. The procurement method adopted is selective via a competitive dialogue process, focusing on establishing effective solutions for educational, research, and professional use in the North East of the United Kingdom.

This tender presents an excellent opportunity for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the 3D printing sector, particularly those offering innovative educational technologies. Businesses specialising in advanced printing solutions and those that can provide leasing options are encouraged to participate, as the University is open to exploring both leasing and outright purchasing options for the equipment. The emphasis on meeting specific operational requirements for the printers makes this a lucrative proposition for firms that can deliver value-added services and support in the higher education and research sector.

## Notice

The faculty of Engineering & Environment require new FDM 3D printers to replacement the faculty's heavily used MakerBot 3D printers. The faculty currently has 15 5th gen models and 5 Z18 models. The new replacements should all work from the same operating/slicing software and be suitable for education, research and professional use. The faculty requires a total of 20 printers of which at least 3 should be large models. We prefer the devices to be provided on a leased basis, but open to explore outright purchase if this provides better value for money. Additional information: The contracting authority considers that this contract may be suitable for economic operators that are small or medium enterprises (SMEs). However, any selection of tenderers will be based solely on the criteria set out for the procurement.
