## Summary

Diamond Light Source Ltd, located on the Harwell Science and Innovation Campus in Oxfordshire, has completed an open procedure procurement for the "Diamond-II Booster Girder Assemblies" as part of their upgrade to the Diamond-II facility. This procurement, classified under electrotechnical equipment (CPV code 31730000), was aimed at acquiring 50 girder assemblies with components such as dipole, quadrupole, sextupole, and corrector magnets, along with UHV vacuum vessel assemblies. The contract, valued at £5,673,584.72, was awarded on 15th July 2024 to Danfysik A/S, a specialised SME from Denmark. The project runs from 15th July 2024 to 2nd July 2027, with the manufacturing and alignment of the assemblies being critical aspects of the tender. Notably, the final assembly and testing phases will ensure compliance with the facility’s high-precision requirements.

This tender represents a significant business opportunity for companies involved in the manufacturing of high-precision electrotechnical equipment, especially those capable of producing and assembling complex magnet systems and vacuum technologies. The specific requirements for mechanical, electrical, magnetic testing, and UHV compatibility suggest that companies possessing advanced engineering capabilities and quality control processes would be well-suited to compete in similar future tenders. The involvement of SMEs highlights the accessibility of such high-value contracts to small and medium-sized enterprises, providing growth opportunities through association with leading scientific facilities like Diamond Light Source Ltd.

## Notice

Located on the Harwell Science and Innovation Campus in Oxfordshire, Diamond Light Source (DLS) is a leading-edge facility for science, engineering and innovation. Diamond allows researchers from academia and industry to investigate the structure and behaviour of the world around us at the atomic and molecular level. To continue delivering the world-changing science that Diamond enables, the facility is being upgraded to Diamond-II, a co-ordinated programme of development that combines a major machine upgrade with new instruments and complementary improvements to optics, detectors, sample environment and delivery capabilities, and computing, as well as integrated and correlative methods. This will be transformative in speed and spatial resolution and will offer users streamlined access to enhanced instruments for life and physical sciences. A total of 50 girder assemblies are required of various types containing different combinations of dipole, quadrupole, sextupole and corrector magnets. The girder assemblies will include the UHV vacuum vessel assembly running through the magnet gaps, including Beam Position Monitors (BPM), bellows, flanges and all necessary vacuum pumps and instrumentation, as well as their support pedestals, adjustment system and baseplates. The booster will operate at 5 Hz repetition frequency and hence all magnets must be of a laminated construction. The girder assemblies must be designed and constructed so as to be able to be fitted together to form sections of the Diamond Booster synchrotron. The vacuum assemblies must be baked-out before integration in the magnets without venting and supplied under vacuum. The magnets and vacuum components are to be mounted and accurately aligned on the girders, complete with all service and interlock connections to suitable manifolds and electrical termination boards, by the Supplier, ready for installation. The Supplier will carry out full mechanical, electrical and magnetic testing of the individual magnetic elements, vacuum tests to ensure UHV compatibility, as well as other tests of components and complete assemblies. To apply visit our website which requires suppliers to complete a one-off simple registration form, which will generate a unique password for your account. You are then able to login to register your interest against the Tender and download the tender documents. Link to the site: https://tenders.diamond.ac.uk/Home.aspx
