## Summary

The recent procurement process conducted by the Defra Network eTendering Portal involved the supply of source apportionment of nickel sources at Sheffield Tinsley. This project, classified under pollution investigation services, aims to enhance understanding of local pollution sources using innovative monitoring techniques. The contract has a value of £42,240 and formed part of a limited procurement method, awarded without the prior publication of a notice. Key phases included the tender period, which concluded on 1 December 2016, and the active contract period commenced on that same date and is set to conclude on 31 July 2017. The work is situated in the Yorkshire and the Humber region of the United Kingdom.

This tender presents a significant opportunity for businesses specialising in environmental services, particularly those focusing on pollution monitoring, tracking, and assessment. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and voluntary, community, and social enterprises (VCSEs) would be particularly well-suited to compete due to the innovative nature of the project and the focus on addressing environmental challenges. Businesses that can demonstrate expertise in air pollution measurement and environmental modelling will find this an advantageous contract to pursue for fostering growth.

## Notice

This work is to undertake an innovative monitoring and modeling study in Sheffield to understand in more detail the sources contributing to the measurements made in the area. Measurements in the last 4 years have been close to, or over, the EU target value for Ni (exceeded in 2013) triggering Defra's need to publish Reports on Measures to the commission detailing how the UK plan to tackle and reduce the concentrations in the area. This study uses an innovative mobile assessment unit to identify local sources of pollution by coupling high time resolution measurements with meteorological data and modeling to map sources of contributions geographically around the monitoring site.
