## Summary

The University of Essex has recently awarded a contract to Ipsos MORI for the "T1075 - Event Triggered Data Collection" project. This procurement, under the industry category of Data Collection and Collation Services (CPV 72314000), pertains to additional data collection between waves of the University’s existing panel study, Understanding Society. The project involves monthly online surveys across an Innovation Panel sample of approximately 2,800 respondents with potential expansion to a larger panel of around 34,000 respondents. The procurement, valued at £1,500,447 GBP, was finalised on 18 February 2025, with the contract set to run from 1 October 2024 to 30 September 2027.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in data collection and survey services. Firms with capabilities in innovative survey methodologies and experience in longitudinal studies may find this contract particularly rewarding. The scope of the project allows such businesses to demonstrate their expertise and potentially secure long-term collaboration with a prestigious academic institution. Additionally, companies proficient in digital data collection and respondent engagement techniques will be well-suited to meet the project's requirements and drive business growth through comprehensive data solutions for the University of Essex.

## Notice

The University is seeking a bidder for additional data collection between waves of our existing panel study, Understanding Society, the UK Household Longitudinal Study. The aim is to develop methods for "event-triggered data collection" using online surveys: the additional data collection will take place on a monthly basis. In an initial phase, this will be piloted for six months on our Innovation Panel sample, which comprises approximately 2,800 invited respondents. Respondents will be asked a single question every month about whether they have experienced any of a defined list of types of events in the last calendar month; if they report any events, they will be asked follow-up questions about the events experienced. As an option, if the pilot is successful, it will progress to the main Understanding Society panel, with approximately 34,000 invited respondents.
