## Summary

The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, based in Richmond, UK, has completed its procurement process titled "RBGKEW1398 - Fungarium Sequencing Project Phase 2," focused on research laboratory services. This process, categorised under the CPV code 73111000, involved an open procurement method for sequencing services related to fungal whole genome sequencing. It was designed for a period of up to 36 months, with the possibility of a 6-month extension, starting from June 2025 and ending in December 2028. The project aimed at sequencing several thousand fungi, primarily from historical collections, necessitating complex DNA protocols. The tendering stage concluded on 30th May 2025, and the contract, valued at £444,000, was officially awarded on 31st July 2025 to Edinburgh Genetics Limited.

The tender presents significant growth opportunities for businesses specialising in high-throughput sequencing services, particularly for scientific and research-focused SMEs and Social Enterprises, which are encouraged to participate. Companies with expertise in handling low-yield, ancient DNA or providing advanced library preparations stand a good chance due to the specific project requirements outlined by RBG Kew. Such a contract not only solidifies a company's reputation in cutting-edge scientific research services but also paves the way for future collaborations and innovation within the industry.

## Notice

The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew ('RBG Kew') intends to appoint a Supplier for a period of up to 36 months with the option to extend by up to a further 6, from contract commencement in 2025. The Supplier will provide sequencing services primarily for the Fungarium Sequencing project, but also for other projects using fungal whole genome sequencing approaches. The Fungarium Sequencing project at RBG Kew aims at whole genome sequencing several thousands of fungi from a combination of fresh samples and mostly historical/ancient dried fungarium collections. Samples are mostly reference type specimens with very low DNA yield. Library preparation requires ancient DNA protocols. The Supplier will provide high-throughput sequencing data either from DNA extracts or from library preparations supplied by RBG Kew, according to the sequencing requirements below:
