## Summary

The procurement process involves UK Shared Business Services Limited as the buying organisation, which has recently completed a tender for "Radiation Hard Cameras for ISIS Target Stations 1 and 2." This tender falls within the services industry, specifically under the category of cameras (CPV code 38651000). The procurement was conducted through a direct method with a single tender action, and the contract has been awarded for a total value of £54,373. The contract period is set from 31 May 2017 to 10 August 2018, while the tender period ended on 16 May 2017.

This tender presents opportunities for businesses specialising in advanced imaging technology and equipment, particularly those capable of supplying radiation-hardened cameras. SMEs in the electronics and engineering sectors, especially those with experience in providing critical safety equipment for radioactive environments, would be well-positioned to compete for similar contracts in the future. Such projects underline the importance of reliable and precise technology in maintaining safety and operational efficiency within high-stakes scientific research facilities.

## Notice

The equipment being ordered is essential to carry out work on highly radio active assemblies in the remote handling cell on ISIS Target station 2. The cameras give the operators close up images of the items being worked on which allow work to be done accurately and safely. Working without cameras would be almost impossible as the only other view of the work is through a 1.4 metre thick, lead glass window. This work is carried out several times a year to replace cryogenic moderators which have a short working life span in the high radiation. There is a high risk of damaging high value items in the active cell without the ability to see clearly. Damage to a new moderator which has a value of approx. PS50 k. could potentially prevent ISIS from running until a new unit could be fitted. This may take two weeks. Also there is the issue of exposing staff to active contamination if a repair to the damaged item was attempted.
