## Summary

The Defra Network eTendering Portal is currently conducting a tender titled "Organic Management Techniques". This procurement falls within the environmental services industry category and aims to facilitate a study reviewing organic farming practices to enhance the sustainability of conventional farming. The tender process began on 17th November 2017, with the submission deadline set for 14th December 2017 at 23:59. The contract duration is expected to commence on 8th January 2018 and conclude on 10th June 2018. This open procurement method allows a wide range of organisations to participate.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses engaged in research and data preparation services, particularly those that focus on agricultural sustainability and environmental practices. Both small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) as well as voluntary, community, and social enterprises (VCSEs) are encouraged to apply, as their innovative approaches to sustainable farming could align well with the objectives of this study. Successful bidders will have the chance to contribute to crucial research that could influence agricultural practices and policies, thereby potentially increasing their market presence in the environmental services sector.

## Notice

A six month contract is needed for a study to review lessons learnt from organic farming in order to explore application of the most valuable of these, where appropriate, to improve sustainability of conventional farms. The study will consider strategies used in organic farming and assess opportunities, practicalities and barriers of translating best practice management techniques from organic to conventional farms. It will also examine potential impacts on farm income, productivity and risk. Defra's investment in this project will identify organic farming practices that deliver sustainability benefits to conventional farms at a time when the organic practice at a whole is in decline. It will evaluate, for promising options, costs and benefits of applying techniques to conventional farms, including a review of potential impacts on farm income, productivity and risk implications. This will allow government to identify opportunities to deliver greater sustainability benefits in conventional farming.
