## Summary

The National Physical Laboratory has announced the award of a contract titled "RFQ - Thermal Cycle Chamber Award Notice", aimed at procuring a thermal cycle chamber designed to rapidly alter temperatures between -70°C and 180°C. This procurement, which falls under the goods category and is classified as laboratory, optical and precision equipment, was conducted through a limited competitive quotation method. The tender period ended on 31 January 2020, with the contract period commencing on 9 March 2020 and concluding on 9 March 2021. The buying organisation's address is Hampton Road, Teddington, TW11 0LW, England.

This tender presents an opportunity for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) specialising in precision laboratory equipment to engage in the competitive procurement process. Companies that manufacture or supply thermal cycling chambers or related testing equipment would find this contract particularly relevant. The procurement process highlights the need for organisations capable of delivering innovative solutions that can support high-reliability electronic system evaluations in industries such as aerospace and automotive, which are currently under increasing demand for rigorous testing capabilities.

## Notice

NPL's requirement is a thermal cycle chamber for rapid increasing or decreasing temperature inside the chamber over a range of -70degC to 180degC, ideally with a 10degC/minute change rate. The purpose is to evaluate mechanical reliability of electronic circuits with a typical load being below 5kg of PCAs. NPL's requirement is to test thermo-mechanical reliability of electronic assemblies by subjecting them to regular thermal excursions across an extended operational range. The tests we will run will be used to test high reliability electronics and electrical system from manufacturers for their type approval testing. Similar systems are used within the industry to provide fitness for purpose testing for new designs and material combinations. The innovative metrology developed by NPL for high temperature materials and manufacturing techniques, is required for electric and hybrid development, oil/gas, and aerospace partners. This is required for benchmarking against these widely accepted industry standards.
