## Summary

UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) has awarded a contract for professional services in designing, project managing, and cost managing the HV/LV infrastructure project works at the UKRI-STFC Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in South East England. The tender, valued at £950,000, falls under the industry category of calculation and monitoring of costs (CPV code 71244000). The contracting process has reached the award stage, with WSP UK Limited being the chosen supplier. The contract will commence on 12th January 2024 and run through 11th January 2026. This project involves addressing a substantial maintenance backlog across 50 substations and 27km of HV cabling, necessitating expertise in complex infrastructure designs and long-term master planning.

This tender offers significant opportunities for businesses specialising in high-voltage/low-voltage design consultancy, particularly those experienced with extensive and complex infrastructure. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with capabilities in infrastructure master planning, maintenance planning, and electrical infrastructure interventions will find this project highly suitable. As an open procedure, it attracts a broad range of potential suppliers, encouraging competitive tendering and allowing businesses to showcase their unique expertise and grow their market presence in the public sector.

## Notice

UKRI-STFC Rutherford Appleton Laboratory site has 50 substations with a total demand of 24MW and c. 27km of HV cabling. Some of this infrastructure is original circa 60 years old. STFC have identified a substantial maintenance backlog list, which forms the focus of the request for the support of a specialist HV/LV Design Consultancy, with large, complexed site Infrastructure design experience. The list is comprised of a large variety of interventions to the electrical infrastructure such as cable overlays for capacity, replacements for service life, and remedial works following faults on the network. There is a clear need for a long-term infrastructure masterplan to address this deficit. At this time, we understand that planning the maintenance work should be mindful to the need for a masterplan. The supplier is to be capable to design and deliver Infrastructure Master planning especially where we are making significant investment into the existing infrastructure. https://www.ukri.org/who-we-are/procurement-contract-transparency-data/
