## Summary

The University of Sheffield is conducting a public procurement for a 360kW Multi-Source Bi-Directional Converter, aimed primarily at enhancing energy efficiency in electrically powered rail transport and electric vehicles. This open procurement, classified under goods, is set to close for tenders on 4 October 2019 at 12 noon (UK time). The total contract value is £130,000, with delivery expected in the Yorkshire and the Humber region. This initiative falls within a crucial phase of the research supported by EPSRC funding and aims to integrate multiple energy sources into DC train power networks.

This tender presents a significant opportunity for businesses specialising in power conversion technologies, especially small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) equipped to provide goods like DC/DC converters, DC breakers, and related safety devices. Companies focused on sustainable energy solutions and those adept in electrical engineering are particularly well-suited to compete. By participating in this tender, businesses can not only add value to their portfolios but also potentially establish long-lasting partnerships with a leading research institution.

## Notice

The University of Sheffield is a leading institution in energy research. The focus of the research in this tender is on electrically powered rail transport systems and electric road vehicles (EVs), and extends to the power supply network which supports them. The proposed research, supported by funding from the EPSRC, addresses both the technology to store electric energy in a form suited to transport use, and the modelling to understand how to use the technology to reduce overall energy demand. This tender is for a multi-source bi-directional DC/DC converter that is suitable for the connection of multiple energy sources that can export and import power to a DC train power network. The scope of supply for this tender includes the DC/DC converter(s), DC breaker, DC contactor, 90kW dump resistor, protection devices (over voltage/over current) and busbars for making connections. This is an Non-EU open exercise. The ITT can be downloaded by registering and expressing your interest on the University's e-tendering system http://in-tendhost.co.uk/sheffield If you have any questions or comments in relation to this tender they must be submitted via the In-tend system, this can be accessed at http://in-tendhost.co.uk/sheffield Completed tenders must be returned through the same e-tendering system. Closing date for receipt of tenders: 4th October 2019 at 12 noon (UK time).
