Wealden District Council are seeking tenders from suitably qualified and experienced contractors for the development of a Suitable Alternative Natural Green Space (SANGS). The Council obtained a 70 acre site on the outskirts of Crowborough in December 2015 to form a Suitable Alternative Natural Green Space, designed to mitigate the effect of new development on the nearby Ashdown forest. The aim of a SANGS is to provide an alternative area of recreational green space, to divert a growing population from using the Ashdown Forest and damaging its delicate ecosystem by increased recreational pressure. The space has to appeal to a wide variety of users while appearing to be a natural environment, able to sustain footfall, both in terms of interest and the ability to remain viable and accessible during the winter months.
