## Summary

The procurement process outlined involves the Environment Agency (EA), a prominent UK regulatory body, seeking technical consultancy support for the regulatory assessments of solid radioactive waste disposal. This is a market engagement initiative denoted under the planning stage, with a focus on consulting services related to environmental issues, classified under the CPV codes such as "Environmental issues consultancy services" and "Geological consultancy services". The procurement is centred on activities in the UK, including specific sites like the LLWR site in West Cumbria, alongside other locations across the UK, British Overseas Territories, and globally. Notably, the engagement is set to end on 4th July 2025, marking a crucial deadline for interested parties. The process is tailored for service procurement, inviting consultants with expertise in environmental and safety regulation of radioactive waste disposal.

This tender presents significant business growth opportunities for consultancies with experience in environmental regulation, nuclear safety, and geological consultancy. Not only does this open up possibilities for UK-based firms, but EA is also keen to engage international organisations, expanding the market potential. The emphasis on experienced consultants highlights the requirement for specialised skills, making this an attractive opportunity for firms already operating in these sectors. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are encouraged to participate, offering a level playing field for new players with relevant experience to compete and potentially form new partnerships with the Environment Agency for future regulatory roles. Engaging in this procurement process can enhance a firm's reputation and provide long-term opportunities through alignment with a leading regulatory authority.

## Notice

This is a market engagement opportunity. The Environment Agency regulates the environmental safety of radioactive waste generated and disposed in England. Operators of nuclear sites in England, including radioactive waste disposal sites, must have a permit from the Environment Agency. The Environment Agency anticipates technical support being required from suitably experienced consultants to support its future work in the following areas: - regulation of the LLWR site in west Cumbria and other LLW disposal sites across England - our current pre-application advice on, and future regulation of, geological disposal - other matters relating to solid radioactive waste regulation In order to assess its options for procurement of these expert consultancy services, the Environment Agency wish to engage with UK and international organisations that have recent and relevant experience of providing contracting support in these areas. Further information on the services expected to be required to support these areas of work and how to participate in the market engagement exercise can be found in the attached 'Regulatory Technical Support - Further Information' document or by emailing radwaste.enquiry@environment-agency.gov.uk using the title 'Regulatory Technical Support Further Information Request' in the subject heading.
