## Summary

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) is conducting a public procurement process titled "FS101222 Using NHS data to monitor trends in the occurrence of severe, food induced allergic reactions". This procurement falls under the category of research and development services and related consultancy services. The tender is currently in the award stage, with the contract period set to commence from 1st October 2019 and extend until 31st January 2022. The procurement was initiated through an open procedure above threshold, with the tender period closing on 11th February 2019. The FSA's main office is located in York, England.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses involved in research and data analysis, particularly those specialising in food safety, health analytics, and data consultancy. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and voluntary, community, and social enterprises (VCSEs) are particularly encouraged to participate, as the requirements align with their capabilities. Companies with expertise in utilising clinical and health data for improving food allergy insights will find this project especially relevant, enabling them to contribute to the enhancement of safety measures and public health initiatives.

## Notice

FSA currently uses hospital admission data to show trends for food allergies, coeliac disease and food intolerance. However, using this as the sole measure is not appropriate in all instances and there are issues with the suitability of the current data used. To improve our estimates and understanding of the circumstances surrounding adverse events, the FSA has proposed a suite of new measures including clinical data associated with primary care and hospital admissions for food hypersensitivities and food allergies respectively (for ease of use we have used the term food hypersensitivities to cover food allergy, food intolerance and coeliac disease).
