## Summary

The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy is currently in the planning stage of a procurement process titled "Cooling in the UK - Online Supplier Engagement Event." This event aims to discuss an upcoming eight-month research project focused on the impact of climate change on cooling demands in buildings across the UK. The engagement will occur online, with a key deadline for registration being 12pm on 25th May 2020, and the event will take place on 1st June 2020, featuring both a presentation and follow-up one-on-one meetings on 4th June 2020. The research budget is estimated between £80,000 and £100,000, and the procurement will utilise the Heat Networks and Electricity Generation Assets (HELGA) dynamic purchasing system.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses focused on energy efficiency, cooling technologies, and related consultancy services. Organisations registered with the HELGA system, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and voluntary, community, and social enterprises (VCSEs), would be well-equipped to compete for this contract. Participants in the engagement event will gain valuable insights into the needs of the project and can network with other suppliers, ultimately enhancing their business prospects within the growing sustainability sector.

## Notice

The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy is hosting an online supplier engagement event to share our plans for an eight-month, desk-based, research project titled Cooling in the UK, with a budget of PS80 to PS100k. This project will study the potential impact of climate change on the need for cooling in buildings in the UK. The main objectives of this project are as follows: * improve the evidence base for the current and future cooling demand in both domestic and non-domestic buildings and make long term projections (to 2100) of heating and cooling demand using climate projections; * assess the associated energy consumption of cooling and its impact on peak electricity demand, nationally or more locally and the potential impacts of future demand; * gather evidence of current, and innovative, cooling measures including passive measures such as shading and ventilation and active measures such as air-conditioning; and * explore the synergies of cooling with other sectors, such as the decarbonisation of heating with heat pumps. This research project will be procured through the Heat Networks and Electricity Generation Assets (HELGA) dynamic purchasing system. This will be run through HELGA Service 1 - Energy Advisory, Design and Technical Services (Advisory) under the following filter: * Energy efficiency in buildings Full details of this requirement will be shared with appointed HELGA suppliers when the competition launches.
