## Summary

The NHS Bedfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group (BCCG) has recently completed a tender process for "Community-based Anticoagulation Services" within the healthcare industry. The procurement, valued at £550,000, targets enhancements in anticoagulation service capacity across various localities in Bedfordshire, particularly in areas currently lacking adequate coverage. The contract period extends from December 1, 2016, to October 31, 2018, with a potential 12-month extension. The tender was initiated to manage an additional caseload of 1,000 patients, requiring new providers to efficiently handle a minimum of 40 patients each, and to offer a comprehensive level 4 service that includes testing and dosage adjustments during a single visit. The services will be delivered in the East of England region.

This opportunity presents a significant growth potential for businesses within the healthcare sector, particularly those specialising in medical services and community healthcare solutions. Small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and voluntary community social enterprises (VCSEs) are well-suited to compete for this contract, given the emphasis on localised service delivery and the ability to provide flexible appointment options, including out-of-hours services. Companies capable of meeting the rigorous requirements for comprehensive patient care and effective service management will be positioned favourably in this procurement process.

## Notice

NHS Bedfordshire CCG (BCCG), has run an Invitation to Tender (ITT), procurement process to secure more capacity for community-based anticoagulation services in a number of localities in Bedfordshire. There are already about 25 GP practices that monitor INR levels for their own patients on warfarin. However, BCCG have identified some communities where there is inadequate or no local coverage. It should be noted that * The existing contracts with GP practices, the Bedford Warfarin Service and at acute hospitals that cover the current anticoagulation service will remain in place. * BCCG anticipate building capacity to the level of 1000 extra patient caseload * That any new provider would need to manage at least a caseload of greater than 40 patients. Localities have been identified where this is possible. * That the service provided would be a level 4 and 'one-stop' service, i.e. that the provider must be able to sample, test, and adjust dosage of warfarin all at one visit, and communicate changes to the patient's GP * That access outside of 'office hours' and 'drop-in' appointments are an essential requirement. * Services will be required for the following lots in localities stated (see specification for full details). * The new contracts are anticipated to run for 24 months with a possible extension for a further 12 months (still subject to confirmation).
