## Summary

Cumberland Council has initiated the "Workington Gateway" project, focusing on enhancing the infrastructure in Workington, England. The project is currently in the award stage, with key elements including improvements to the Ramsay Brow junction (A66/A596) and road widening of Hall Brow (A596), aiming to boost access to strategic employment sites like the Port of Workington. This construction work, classified under CPV code 45000000, involves realigning and widening roads, creating new cycle routes, and enhancing public spaces. The open procedure tender was published on 22 August 2024, with the tender period ending on 11 October 2024. The contract period will run from 21 October 2025 to 30 January 2026. The initial stage of the project has been awarded to Story Contracting Limited for £224,334.97, with a decision hold-point before proceeding to Stage 2 construction.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses involved in construction, roadworks, and infrastructure development. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are particularly encouraged to participate, as the procurement process is accessible and supportive of SME involvement. Firms specialising in civil engineering, public realm improvements, and cycling infrastructure will find this project especially relevant. The enhancements to the local infrastructure not only promise immediate business growth through contract engagement but also long-term benefits by improving access and connectivity in the area, potentially driving further local investments and developments.
