## Summary

The procurement process titled "Groundwater & Nature-based Solutions (NBS) improving the evidence-base" was initiated by the Defra Network eTendering Portal. This project, classified under environmental issues consultancy services, aims to enhance the evidence base regarding water resource benefits from Nature-based Solutions in chalk catchments across the UK. The contract was awarded to Jeremy Benn Associates Ltd for a total of £55,000, with the contract period commencing on 13 December 2021 and concluding on 31 March 2022. The process followed a selective procurement method as a call-off from a framework agreement, with the tender period ending on 1 December 2021.

This opportunity presents significant prospects for businesses specialising in environmental consultancy, particularly those with expertise in water resource management and Nature-based Solutions. Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and voluntary community sector enterprises (VCSEs) would find this tender particularly suitable. By participating in such projects, companies can not only contribute to sustainability efforts but also expand their portfolio in public sector contracts, enhancing their competitiveness in the environmental consultancy market.

## Notice

This project aims to build our evidence base by assessing and quantifying the potential water resource benefits (and other multiple benefits) of installing Nature-based Solutions (NBS) measures across four catchments with differing geology. The project is focused on Chalk catchments as Chalk streams currently have a high priority for action as part of the catchment-based approach to water resources sustainability. This is predominantly a desk-based and numerical model study, although future work may progress to trialling measures in targeted catchments. The products of this work will be new groundwater recharge models which will help us to quantify the water resource benefits of installing Nature-Based Solutions across a chalk catchment.
