## Summary

The procurement process is led by the Defra Network eTendering Portal, seeking bids for the acquisition of weed harvesters and amphibious weed harvesters. This project falls within the goods category, specifically for specialised boats, with a contract value of £4,500,000. The contractor period commenced on 15 March 2021 and is set to end on 14 March 2023. The award for this tender was published on 27 May 2021, and the procurement was conducted via an open procedure above the threshold.

This contract presents significant business growth opportunities for companies involved in the environmental services industry, particularly those specialising in marine and river maintenance vessels. Businesses that manufacture, supply, or maintain specialised boats would be well-positioned to compete for this tender. With the emphasis on handling environmental issues in waterways, firms with innovative solutions or sustainable practices may hold a competitive advantage in this procurement process.

## Notice

The Environment Agency uses a number of different types of weed cutting boats and harvesters for essential river maintenance. This maintenance includes managing floating weed, submerged plants, obstructions and other debris in our waterways, ditches and channels. The access and environmental issues requires maintenance to be undertaken using boats rather than construction type equipment. There are a number of amphibious weed cutting boats and weed harvesters required. It is expected that these vessels will be the priority for replacement during the term of the Contract, although there may be other requirements as workload demands.
